The ASPCA recently staged a large adoption event in Sanford, North Carolina. It was held on March 18-20, 2016, and included close to 700 dogs and cats who needed homes. On January 27, 2016, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the ASPCA, rescued these animals from the New Haven, an illegally run animal rescue in Raeford, North Carolina. The animals lived in terrible conditions, and many had health issues. They were transferred to a temporary shelter.
Over a hundred ASPCA responders cared for the rescued animals for close to a month. The ASPCA provided all of the basic medical care, including vaccinations and microchips, free of charge. More than 500 dogs and cats were adopted during the event.
